Working Out When Traveling

Sticking to a regular workout routine when at home is a matter of strong self-discipline, but what about when traveling for business or pleasure? A lot of us throw our routines out the window to fully immerse ourselves in the more fluid structure that travel requires. Flexibility is key with regards to everything when travel….remembering that might make it easier to implement a semi-solid workout schedule when on the road and provide you with the continued health benefits you work for at home.

Hotel Fitness Centers // Big Gyms

Let’s be honest. The vast majority of hotel fitness centers are pretty bare boned. You can use them in a pinch, or, research whether your home based big gym has a branch where you are traveling. Most likely you can purchase a one day or one week pass at your gym or at one that you aren’t a member of. Researching this in advance is helpful.

Specialized Fitness Classes

There are so many specialized fitness classes these days, including barre, boxing, and more. Many of these have online booking capabilities that you can check in advance to purchase a one class pass. Research where your hotel is at your destination and see what is close by – who knows, you might discover a new form of fitness that you can then re-visit when back home?

Online Classes // Workouts

These days, there is no shortage of online workout classes – both for free and via subscription. The beauty of these classes is that you can choose ones that don’t require anything but a pair of tennis shoes – no other equipment necessary.

Walking // Running

If you’re comfortable getting out and exploring the city where you’ve traveled, you can look up running groups to join in for a run or find a walking tour of the area, both to familiarize yourself with your surroundings but also to get in some steps.

Working out while traveling can be a great way to let off some steam and maintain a regular fitness schedule — pack your clothes and set the intention that you’ll do something each day of your trip to maintain your healthy routine.
